I told myself after Saturday's hunt that I wasn't going to get out any more before leaving for the DIV hunt to rest up, pack, etc. But I just couldn't resist making a short trip back to the new site I went to last week. I had found a small house site on top of a little knoll in the middle of a large field and found about a dozen or so early buttons and a 1/2 reale last time. As soon as I walked into the field today the very first hit I got turned out to be a French 85th regiment Rev War button identical to one I found last year in another county. It was definitely a shocker. I spent most of the time there randomly walking within a 100 yards or so of the knoll to see how far the finds might be spread out, and I was pleasantly surprised when a nice 1858 3 cent piece popped up about 200 ft from the original hotspot. I also dug some large tombacs, and early flat button with a drilled shank, a musketball, what I think is a clock key, and this interesting piece shown in the last 2 pics. I'm wondering if this could possibly be part of a butt cap to a flintlock pistol or from a sword pommel. Probably neither, but if anyone has any ideas please post them. This will be my last post until after the DIV hunt, and hopefully I'll have some keepers to show from that adventure.
