Yesterday's sidewalk strip - silver:)

After Saturday's hunt with people from TNet, couldn't stay inside yesterday. Went down my street to a house that's been empty for a while. Sidewalk strips are owned by the city. Found lots of pennies and at the very end of the strip (isn't it always the way?) found my 2nd Mercury dime! (3rd ever silver coin). Other finds were the badge above the dime in the photo - it says "President" - looks like it was hooked over a button on a chest pocket or something. And the button - looked it up and found it online - Waterbury Button Co - a policeman's uniform button. Thanks for looking and HH!

Nice finds,

My brother found the same exact button last summer at a old foundation with me here in pa.

We found the button to be around the civil war period and it was a postal service button. Whoever brang the mail in those days wore that style button on there uniform.

Hi Jer,
Thanks for looking - where in PA are you? I'm from Philly (most recently from Norristown) - I don't think my button is that old- the house and the street were built around 1905ish. Here's the website I got the info from :
http://www.waterburybutton.com/user-cgi/pattern_search.cgi?catg=&subcatg=&page=2&keywords=P, wreath

One of my very first finds, a couple of months ago in my own front yard, was a pin that I think is a Postal Service pin. Here's the old post:http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,45900.0.html

Either way, I'm happy with it. thanks again,
Lara

I'm in Pittsburgh Pa. To bad it's a 4 hr shot. We could do some hunting possibly.

His button may have had a different reaf around it. But I rememer it being really similar to that one. A P in the center. But the site we were hunting went back to the earlier part of the 1800's.

I love to find old buttons. More than old coins. Still a great find and I'm sure the yard has more.

I've got a button just like that with all of the silver gilt still remaining. I was told it was a 1920s-40s era police button. So you were right on the money.

Nice job and congrats on your silver!

Jer,
I'm actually in Massachusetts now, but my husband is a rabid Steelers fan, if that counts for anything;)

Nice finds! The sidewalk tearups are winding down here. I'll have to wait now until next year.
