I used Renaisance wax on the wood. Sometimes it works. It was really deep in the silt so it might hold up.

This is a great axe, but how is it related to the War of 1812 again?

Thanks everyone! I am having good luck with what is left of the handle....so far. I am rotating it in olive oil and waxing it. So far I have found out that "ASH" probably stands for the type of handle. Any help finding the maker STONES would be great. Found in Eastern Lake Ontario. View attachment 623550
