I spent 4 hours on my own going back over a Roman site that we discovered last Nov & finished in early Jan. We had previous had just over 100 Roman bronze coins & no silver, but Cru'dad had a very rare brooch. The reason I'm back on this site is because the stubble/grass/weeds have been sprayed off & disced in. It's still pretty choppy but good enough to detect.
When doing a site for the second time, I take more time & clear more nails/small lead & iffy signals. It paid off today with 16 Roman Coins (nearly double our combined total for last month), so at least I maybe moving closer to another good find.

At over 12" I had the largest Roman Lead Steelyard Weight I have ever seen.

that must be something to be MDing a roman site ...cool findings HH
It is to begin with, but when you found so many, it's the hope of a Saxon Site which we dream of...although I like a transitional Iron Age/Roman site which may produce an odd Celtic item/coin.
This site has produced the odd Bronze Age item & 1 or 2 Saxon items, so anything could turn up.

Thanks Cru! I have to search the bucket where that thing is and have a look where a loop could been attached and weigh it. It is from the middle of a roman site i know for sure. But with that other things which turn up there i didn't thought roman.

I don't know much about the weight system, as the sizes seem to vary so much & they are too heavy for my digital scales.

You did well on Saturday Cru, considering you were hunting alone! :notworthy:
I really like the look of this Jetton, not to mention all those beautiful Roman bronze coins!

I find it amazing how many coins the Romans seemed to lose back then . . . I wonder why this happen so frequently? :icon_scratch:

Hope you and your family have a relaxing Easter,
Dave

Many of the 'loyal subjects' would not want to be caught with the previous Emporers coins, so they would be chucked away. (1 of many reasons...)

This site is only a 6 day job at max. I just hope for a silver we have never had from here yet, plus it would be my first this year. We are well off target for them this year but with the gold who cares:laughing7:
