that thing must be from the 1960's. you could probably send pics to whites and they could tell you how old it is

very odd.......since wood does not conduct any sort of electronic signal ????

i think that is a White's 'Apollo' model. The design looks the same, but I think they were brown.... I will check my old archives...

Edit: Pretty sure it is a Coinmaster 2

I don't think that coil was stock. I've seen wooden coils before.(On an old "little monster" from the early 70s.)

White's has been around for a LONG time. They actually got their start making instrumentation, and then "Uranium" detectors (the "nuclear age" had people scouring the desert for uranium to sell to the government) and Geiger counters.

Pistol perfect.... Have you checked it to see if it works? I don't see any electrical connections from the coil unless they are ran up through the stem. Never seen anything like that and I've been metal detecting for over 40 years. Tennessee digger

If you look closely the wires are there. Its definitely a homemade job though since its not a Whites coil.

Mr. Cooley, a 91 year old relic hunter and friend of mine, has several detectors from the 1960's with wooden coils. They were common back then

You learn something new everyday. I never knew that they used wooden coils years ago. That is pretty cool. Tennessee digger

Well, if you drop it in the ocean by accident, at least you know it'll float. :laughing7:
