I have been under the weather for a couple weeks, but managed to get out 3 times metal detecting at a site very close to my home, that has produced numerous colonial and Federal/US coinage over the past 30 years. I got three coins on those three hunts, one each hunt and all three are 1700 era coinage.

A 1798 Large Cent, a 1775 Half Real and this morning I got my bonus coin, a nice 1786 New Jersey.
I found this one not ten feet from where I found my only cut in half NJ copper back in 2002. That was variety ID to be a Maris 59-o.

So today this was my 22nd ground found NJ copper, 7th in the past two years, just love this hobby............

Included photos of the NJ, the Half Real and a beautiful Tombac button (circa 1770-90s) with a nice sunburst design.

This 1786 Maris 16-L variety (Very Common) is one of the best of the 22 New Jersey coppers I have found for condition. Funny, the 1798 found at the same site is nowhere near as nice.

Don, that is one spectacular condition coin. It's hard to imagine those state issued coppers shiny and new, but that one was close. I didn't even know that the horse had an eye in the original design, I've seen so many that were so worn. Nor did I realize how fine the detail on the mane was. That is truly fantastic.

Congratulations,

Buckles

Don can chime in on this to confirm, but my limited knowledge of NJ coppers tells me that many were weakly struck which can give the appearance of excessive wear.
