While searching for new sites, I decided to
go over the Department of transportation maps from 1946 again
and today I decided on this former Grove

so I ran over and started looking for the property owner.
seemed everywhere I drove I saw this woman mowing grass.
first at the cemetery, then at the driveway to the owner of the properties house So I
introduced myself & She gave me permission.
saying there was rumor this was a church grove for this 1831 Church

1831.jpg

before I Left she said she would like to see what I Find,
so I Promised her I'd be back & headed over

Needless to say, this place did not have any Gas rebate.
the grove was gone by the late 60's

went back over showed her my finds, told her I Couldn't believe
I didn't find any silver, but would be back between
late fall & early Spring to try again.
Have to wait for the poison to die off.

Not sure IF I Got any sap on me or not.
but was sweating & Rubbing my eyes allot
which worried me enough to quit early

Awesome finds Jeff! I love that milk bottle!
Is that the grove we drove by last summer on the way to another grove? Near where we saw the skunk in the middle of the day.

I checked Terapeak and a one-pint Maurer's Wayside Dairy milk bottle sold last June on eBay for $61. That's a great price for an old piece of glass!

Now that is research!

Man, I can't believe you didn't find any old silvers. If you had not found that walking halve last week I would think your detector needs to go in for repair.
Incredible!
NICE TRIBE!!!!

great job! Sounds like my last hunt. A place that should have been loaded only gave up 5 indians. Probably been detected before and cherry picked. I still haven't found any whole bottles yet so nice work with that.

poison ivy

A word of caution about poison ivy: both cases of ivy I have gotten while metal detecting were AFTER THE LEAVES FELL OFF. Since the leaves had fallen off, I didn't know it was there, and the result was two cases of horrible poison ivy all over my hands and knees. I was digging in the dirt and disturbed the roots. The roots have concentrated poison in them, and it gets all over your hands as you dig. I have dug many holes around ivy while it had leaves, and was careful not to contact the soil; no rash resulted. If I were you, I would finish detecting that place during the summer and not go back in the fall or winter!

Still a good day detecting. I had poison really bad one time and I definitely don't want to go through that again.

every time I had poison it was between my fingers,
except last time it was in the center of my palm.
yes I Only get it from the sap.
I was digging the coins with my fingers,
there was 3 maybe 4 " of leave cover then maybe 3 inches of soft ground
between me & most of the coins. below that very stoney,
but was very carefull to just brush the poison to the side,
rather then Break the stems.
I already told her I won't be back till fall, so .....

thanks to the early Department of transportation maps
have 2 more Defuct Groves in the same general area, one just below a church also,
so may go after them next time.
Didn't realize the one my nephew asked about above is just a couple mile north
of this one.

Thanks all !
