Broke my 1700s streak, but that's OK, very nice 2 Cent piece
I have hunted 6 times nearby since April 7th and on 5 hunts I got a single 1700 era coin with only one hunt getting skunked on coins, but today on my 7th hunt at the same ole site I got a slight coin type reading amongst the heavy iron area I was hunting and going slow again proved to be successful. A nice 1864 Two Cent Piece was down there, about 6 inches and it was nice to see a coin with great detail. It was found only about 20 feet from where two weeks ago I got that great conditioned NJ copper, so the soil in that immediate area is kind to coins. But 2 Centers usually do fair pretty good in the ground for the most part, better than other copper coins in general, perhaps the tiny bit of tin used helps.
I checked my records and the last 2 center I found was way back in April 2006! So it has been quite some time since I have found one. This was my 7th one.

For undug coins this is true. For dug coins this is untrue.
The value will increase with judicious cleaning."
Don, As fair a two cent piece I ever see! Don't look dug hardly. God Bless Chris
Mike, yes on the peroxide.

Man that's in good shape. You guys have such good soil down there for digging.
I only wished they all came out great but our soil in fact is highly acidic but it is the drainage factor of the sandy soil that I believe allows a lot of the coppers in our area to be in rather good shape for grounders. However, here is an example from the same site on how only a 100 feet distance and slightly different conditions can result in a copper not being exactly one to brag about. I found the NJ at the bottom years ago at the same site, approx 100 feet away if that, but it was on the down slope side of the drainage from a paved road, so I suppose the runoff from the road contributed to the demise of the other NJ copper, which is my worst conditioned one out of over 22 of them.

Nice 2 center, another coin that has evaded me. But it seems like my finds tend to mirror yours at some point down the road (with the exception of the NJ coppers) so I am hopeful that mine will follow!
i don't know, don.
looks like your'e slipping.
better throw it back and wait 'til it gets a little older.
you could be in trouble if a warden caught you
with something that young...
