Awesome finds! The NJ is a real beauty! I bet that made the hike out from Philly worth it!

Those large coppers are always a thrill to find. And it's even better when they are state issued coppers!

That's so cool. I would LOVE to find a New Jersey. Love finding them large cents too. I haven't found one in quite awhile now.

Congrats, the LC and NJ copper are both rather good for Pa soil finds, gives me some hope of finding a nice one if I go to some of the ancestoral farms in Berks/Montgomery/Schuylkill. If you found any more NJ coppers or know of anyone else who has, I have been doing a circulation pattern study of them for many years and need at minimum State/County found in and as in your case a photo of both side with either variety ID/year if not variety ID'd or I will try and ID variety or at minimum year if photos are clear enough, THANKS, PM me if you have any more inputs on NJ coppers...........

Don, yes I have actually found 1 other NJ copper. Between the cemetery & the road at the Old Moravian Church in Thurmont, MD. Found it back in 2001. Nearly slick but absolutely identifiable. I had no knowledge of NJC variations at that time & I no longer have it. Hope this helps.

Scott, thanks, I will add the Md find also to the survey, do you remember the year at all? If not thanks anyway and if anybody else you know in the area has found any please contact me so I can get the data.

Best results with a toothpick, baking soda & warm water (and elbow grease). I've had decent results with hydrogen peroxide too.
