What were the detector readings not silver? or test results...
silver near trash can result in an off reading.
most of the reps I've seen have flat crosses, not the mexican club ends.
and all in 8 Reale size.
exciting find either way!@ Best digs, Herbie

I took it to a jewlry store ,he checked it out and said it'snot silver, but could be plated silver. Hesaid I know nothing aboutcoins, but I can check to see if its silver. I did hear that some cobs are also copper,so I don't know. All I know is i do love this find and looks really kool and old.

I acid test my own metals and have found that if say a silver spoon is laying against a nail it can transfer rust to the silver and give a false reading. I know nothing about these coins so I'm just throwing in what I know about metal.

I know it looks old but I'm pretty sure its a copy done no more than 30ish years ago. Still better than a zincoln

Even with not the best pics the right side pic screams plated modern fake. I'd set it aside and continue the hunt!
Your jewelry guy I would guess isn't a coin guy too if he only suggest it could be plated.
