Cool finds! What a nice productive spot. What is holding the Buffalo and pennies together? With that one penny being warped maybe they partially melted into each other from a fire or something?

I also really like that (masonic?) pin, and that dogtag-shaped Navy Surplus thing.

I have no idea why the 5 coins are stuck together. I've been metal detecting for 27 years and I've never dug up anything like this! Perhaps they fussed themselves together after being stacked on top of each other for the last 70 years or so?

Could be! Different soil and other stuff does way different things to coins. The only things I've found that were also fused like that were many coins found in an Altoids tin that had been buried in a sandy tot lot for around 5 years. Apparently it was the rust from the tin leaking onto and inbetween the coins (and maybe reacting with their surface) that caused the fusing.

Btw, your fused unit is way older than mine, but I hope you also don't break them apart! It's really neat and unusual being fused like that!

How long have you been hunting that area? Looks pretty big!

It looks like they have been melded together with tar! That's a neat find though.

I'm going to keep them the way they are and add them to my curio cabinet collection. I started hunting this area back in October 2011, been hitting it off and on since. The amount of trash in this strip has amounted to probably 100 pounds after the last 8 months worth of hunting! Enough copper and brass scrap money to fill a gas tank! Sometimes I invite some of my hunting buddies, but I'm basically the only guy hunting this area! My best silver coin day there was a 9 silver day!

Sweet Finds Mike,

could those coins get fused together in a fire?

Happy Hunting,
