Found this today separating out some Wheaties. I can see 191??? And a ???? mint mark. Hard to say if it's a S or D. I cannot, even under a powerful microscope, see anything in the last digit area. The mint mark is also missing the bottom of whatever it may be. Possibly a error? Any suggestions about who to use for authentication? This was a dug coin from last year I think.

My opinion is that it is a "filled die". Also, normal wear and some loss of detail from being in the ground for who knows how long will take a toll on a copper coin.

May be due to grease in the die. I had a new dollar coin and thought it would be worth a bunch but no, 10.00.

Other than a curiousity, in that condition, it doesn't really matter what the date/mint mark is unless you're just trying to fill a hole in an album.

Yep, not a terribly uncommon mint error for an early wheatie. A keeper, worth a couple dollars. :)
