CTX Weekend Day 2 Finds: Gold, IH's, and tokens

    This is Sunday's hunt 6-17-12

This is a totally new yard and the CTX was hot right out of the gate.

While detecting the home from the day before I noticed a smaller home and yard at the opposite end of the street. It appeared to be 1920's so I gained permission and got ready.

Now this has never happened in 28 years of detecting, but I got out of the car turned on the machine, ground balanced noise canceled and swing 3 swings along the sidewalk. 10-24 solid showed at 6 inches, dug down and at around 7, what I saw about made me drop my machine!!!

    1890's-1920's J.R. Wood's & Son's 18kt Gold ring

I was pretty pumped about finding a ring and continued down the sidewalk.. nothing else.. So I moved up into the yard, thinking this may not be a good yard.. I started hearing and seeing very shallow clad along the walk way, so I moved out into the yard and immediately dug a 1905 Indian Head... After that I cut the yard in half and started griding...Next target was a second Indian Head, a 1902.

1902 and 1905 Indian Head Cent

This yard is tiny and is about 15 yards wide by 10 yards long.. So it didn't take me long. Several wheat's came from all over.

    7 Wheats Oldest 1909, no S....

My next find was out of the ordinary. It has to be one of the more intriguing coins I have ever found due to it's horrible past.

1940 10 Reichspfenning from the time of Hitler and German Third Reich

1940 10 Reichspfenning With Swastika on reverse.

For the second day in a row I find an Apothecary weight. This one is larger than the one from the day before. This one is about the size of a nickel and is a 3ii, and says two drachms.

    Apothecary Weight. Two Drachms 3ii.

The best find of the day in my opinion was this very well preserved Good for Token.

Corner Drug Store Durant OklaGood For 5¢ in Trade

    Good For 5¢ in Trade

Now this was in a new yard and as far as I know hasn't been hunted, But with the absence of silver makes me think someone had hunted it before...I'm glad they left some for me..lol

    Hope you enjoy
    Evan

that ring is a killer love the hallmark I read your previous post your finds are certainly impressive was there a huge learning curve with the ctx I saw one yesterday on ebay for £200 cheaper than the guy paid for it he went back to his previous detector I suspect he was so used to his old machine.

brilliant finds please update your findings as most aren't brave enough to invest so heavily in a such expensive machine with out others going before well done that man.

Way to go! The CTX seems to be treating everyone good. I can't keep up with all the phone calls for them. I have sold 40 of these since they were introduced just a month ago. Good machine

For all you guys that have just started with the Minelab CTX 3030 metal detector | Big Boys Hobbies you might want to check out Gone Huntings settings. It REALLY wakes up this machine.

It is basically 2 tone ferrous with tones. The CTX is so accurate I can't get any of my "iffy" signals to be good like you can with the E-Trac. I will keep digging them for now just to be sure. It it is iffy its a bad target. Its to hard to break my E-Trac mentality.

Try out his settings. you will be amazed! CTX3030, My Settings | Gonehunting For History-United States

That is a beautiful ring and must have been exciting to find it right out of the gate. I am really liking my E-trac and want to thank all of you CTX3030 users for trading them in. I know that if anyone can get the best out of the CTX you will. Good luck in all your future hunts and hopefully we can get together sometime for a hunt.

Thanks bud.. I am definitely looking at this machine different than I did... Hopefully in the next couple of hunts I am going to try some other setting for different types of hunting, but this one sure is doing well... The iffy's definitely are not the key anymore.. at least for me..

Pescadore the E-Trac is definitely still a force to reckoned with.. It is still one of the best deep silver and coin ID machines out there.. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon...you and Roy need to come up..

Since you've hunted with both, how do they compare for deep coins? Is the CTX worth the extra money? Other than the GPS, water resistance, and a few other whistles and bells, what is better about the CTX?

Honestly at first no, but after changing it to my preferences yes!. I'm not going to say it's deeper yet, but I really truly believe it's ID is much more accurate at deeper targets.. I can't think of the last time, with any machine, that I dug a 9 inch nickel(buffalo) and it sounded like it was at 5inches... Most of the targets in the hunted out yard from the Day 1 hunt were 7+. I know that doesn't sound that deep but my other detectors were missing them... I loved my E-Trac and usually ran the sensitivity at around 27. The thing is, I am running in Auto +2 sometimes +3. I really think it's that much more accurate and more sensitive.. but I have only had it for 2 1/2 weeks.. I tested iffy signals and its definitely not like the E-Trac.. I have noticed when it hits on a good target, it is 90% of the time, a good sound all the way around it(kind of like the Deus).. not like the Trac where you might only get a good sound in one direction.. I can't say that I am missing deeper targets with it, but its finding deeper targets several brands including the Trac missed... on a second note I really like it being water proof
