These finds are from my last few hunts. I found the three Schenkls today and the three Reads before that. The Reads are Confederate and the Schenkls Yankee. I think I am up to 15 shells so far this season. I also found a bunch of bullets and some other tidbits.

Here are some Civil war cartridges found at a battle site in the water. The big one is a Spencer carbine and the others go to a Smith and Wesson pistol (I think). They are both the long and short varieties. I don't often find whole cartridges in the water, and am very pleased to have found these.

Here is a huge axe I found today. I haven't had time to research it yet, so if anyone has a clue to its age or use, I'd appreciate the heads up. The bullet is for scale.

Thanks for checking out my post. Hope to see you out there!

Man, I haven't dug 15 silver for the year!
You have what is known in the military community as an arsenal!
Keep us posted on the axe, as well, that's a thing of beauty.

Man I am sad that I missed that trip...oh well will make it up once I am back on the wagon starting this week! I like the p-caps, btw your axe head is a Colonial Goosewing axe. It looks forged so assuming 1700-1800s but I do believe they made them as recent as the turn of the century.

Nah, thankfully we don't have cottonmouths this far north....yet. I do have to keep an eye out for large snappers, I imagine they could take a chunk out of you. I had a friend lose a fingertip to one while playing in the water. But we do also have plenty of regular water snakes, leeches and infectious microbes. I think I met some of the latter yesterday. May have to say close to home today.:sad5:
