Daughter's first day of detecting, nice brass fixture and metal frog

Today I took my daughter out for her first day of detecting. I took her to an older house that is getting ready to get demolished. I checked it out earlier and apparently it has not been detected in a while. Plenty of targets near the driveway, so was perfect place to take a 6 year old and keep her attention.

She found a little green frog, a very nice brass rod fixture, 2 arcade tokens, a key, and $2.43 in clad. Mostly pennies. I do not have a picture of the clad. And I tried to get a close up of the arcade tokens. For those of you who are wondering and remember the Aladdin's Castle Arcade that was big in the 80's it is tokens from there. Aladdin's Castle words on one side and a Genie's bottle on the other.

Here is the pics. Thank you for viewing.

Post and Randi....congrats on a great day!!! Post...you are in trouble...she's cunning has those heartbreaker eyes...:) Nice to see family out together and looks like you;ll have many future hunts together. Can;t wait till my 3 year old can swing a detector on her own, she goes with me but isn;t big enough yet for her own detector.

I had to break the detector down as far as it would go. She still had to hold on to it at her side and use both hands. She had a very difficult time and probably needs about 2 more years before she is ready. Depends on growth spurts I guess. But we had all day. And with it warm and beautiful, plus being a basically virgin, trash free yard, the settings were perfect. LoL you should have seen her showing her finds to everyone and calling.

SO yep to all of you that says she is hooked....well line and sinker LoL.

Amen to that one. I am glad she takes after her mom on looks. THat way I can get rid of her at 18 now by the possibility of 2 ways. Either by husband for looks, or by college for brains. LoL joking about getting rid of her of course. But it's good she didn't take my ugly mug for sure.

Yeah she kicked my butt hard on my first day too. I just let her go loose in the yard basically and tried to show her how to do it. But those little arms made it too hard for her to swing correctly. However I was blessed with a great spot and a daughter that did not get bored trying.

Re: Daughter's first day of detecting, nice brass fixture and metal frog

I read some of the replies to her before she went to bed. Thank you to all of you for your kind responses. She cannot wait till tomorrow after school to check again. I think she got as big of a kick out seeing herself on the internet as the detecting in some ways.

She is sleeping with that brass rod end. WOW that thing is really heavy.

Anyone have any guesses if it is fully brass or perhaps just coated. I have the quarter there to compare it size, but what you can't see is how thick it is. It is pretty darn thick.

Anyways, thank you all. I guess I will have to try my best to figure out a way to fix this detector so she can really use it more effectively. Since most areas don't have that many targets. I don't usually care so much for digging pennies all day, but today was awesome. And a big pile of that clad was pennies. So that really made her day.

And yep she will probably ask me everytime I go now. LoL Which would be pretty cool, but unfortunately she is still too young to go to some of the places I would go that would have perils for young kids.

Thanks again to all of you. These responses really topped her day off and sure put a big smile on her.

In case you are wondering as a big guitar fan for years and years, and a player for many years until a wrist injury. She was named after Randy Rhoads Ozzies guitarist that died in the plane crash. I have a beautiful white Fender Strat for her when she gets older. She loves music now, so I guess she will be a guitar pickin detector LoL.

Good job, Randi!

You did MUCH better than I did on my first try - or my second, or my third or... (you get the idea). It's still fun, though. :D

I specially like the frog, but the brass doohickey is cool too.
