COUPLE TNer's + 3FIRST FIND'S =A GOOD WEEKEND!!!!!!!

Met up with Justin and his Father-in-Law Al.....took them up to one of the farm's at Antietam on Saturday.....Al find's his FIRST 3 ringer ever....Nice job Al......Sunday I met up with Justin again and hunted one of his new propertie's.Weren't really sure of the back property line so we decided to go up a little way's and hunt back down...On the way back down we started getting hit's...Found an old trap and a 30-30 shell.Skipping forward to Justin's hunt,which I'm sure he will tell you more about , it started getting better.....I watched him dig this hole for an hour.....I've never seen anthing like this.....Some poor soul went into battle with a little less than expected needless to say....But that's another story and I'll let Justin tell you that one....Unbelievable.....This find is my FIRST....Sorry,lost for word's right now.....Right before Justin started diggin' his huge "cache" of bullet's I found this,full bayonet and scabbard intact....I'm drinkin' a beer right now so no research for me tonight...Thank's again Justin....Awesome Weekend!!!!!

Hi thats a Mauser Bayonett I sold one recently on ebay mine was srybian yours may be diff, but likley either pre WW II or a made shortly after, pretty easy to find out though, best I'v done this week is some quality time with my son and a silver heart, lotsa clad though, Great finds I'd love to lift a bayonett outa the dirt.

Sherm......never in my life have seen anyone dig for that long in the same hole....aftre finding the bayonet I didn't care if MY detector blew up in front of me!!....Enjoyed watching the buck-n-ball's come out....Can't get the scabbard off....gonna have to take it to someone.....Any suggestion's in the meantime?.....Walkin' on thin air right now!!!!!!!

Civil....very nice bayonet!!!!!!!! As for getting the scabbard off...try wrapping it in a towel and then out it in a vice and snug it up, spray some penetrating oil on the seam so it runs down into the scabbard, slowly work the bayonet back and forth if you can or lightly tap on it with a small rubber mallet hammer, repeat the process till it frees itself letting it sit a while in between sprayings. The penetrating oil should free it up and will also help in cleaning it up some. Caution though...I am not sure if the oil will do any permanent damge to the metal or wood, so don;t jump right into this without asking around some about the potential damaging effect of the oil, if any.

That sticker looks to be in pretty great shape.Have to post another pick after you dissassemble and clean.Hopefully not a pile of rust inside...Congrats ....Joe
