.........Another nice day in my part of Illinois. Weather
in the 60’s, sunny.

Hit the same general location I hit yesterday. No
dump digging, all with the detector today.

Set up office at a large tree, that I would be able to
see from the areas I was working.

Out for about 3 hours, did a lot of digging. Did not
run into a lot of modern trash.

Finds: Lot of what is left of shotgun shells; bullet; file;
a big window weight, or by the size, could be for a gate
or door; heavy metal hoop; what I think is a compact and
some brass studs from animals or people.

This is the compact, very heavy; not sure at first but woman
say it could be parts for mirror, puff, face powder, things like
that. Nice design, with a few stones in it.

This is what was inside the compact( main piece had a base
and cover, this was inside):

Brass tacks on leather, two are still attached together:
They are not all the same size ???

All in all had a good day, no big finds. Did a lot a walking
and digging. Spent a lot of time today at the office, big old
tree did good for my back. ;D

All have a good un………

Hi Shermanville
Although I've never found a coin inside a compact, my heart stops everytime I find one and open it. Nice stuff.

Nice ornate compact.Looks to be very old ...possibly Victorian. You have plenty of office space but sounds like you could use some more comfy furnishings.

Thanks all for the comments.

MofPA,
ditto with me. Have found 5 or 6 compacts,
when I open them I clean out the mud, weeds,
and whatnot, looking for coins ;D

Civil,
yes, small star is a gear of some kind; could be
watch or clock.

Nana,
first one for me with stones, think it is an old one.

99,
just enjoy the weather while we can. ;D

all have a good un.....

I like your style, Sherm. Nothing fancy....no gold coins.....no hot dog bracelets....but you're happy and content with your day. You have a great outlook on life. 8)

In my opinion......A day in the woods is as good as it gets! :)

Sherm, that is a very nice design on that compact. I have just recently dug up 2 of them. One pretty well gone, so had to pitch it. But the other seems to be more of possibly a pill container than a compact. I have to agree on the heart stopping on the compacts. The last one I got 3 days ago sounded like coin inside all the way. I opened it and it was a piece of flat lead or something about the size of a dime.

Beautiful country you have there. As I said in earlier in another response to one of your other posts this week looks like its time to get in the mountains and enjoy the peace and quiet.

As always great post,

Post,

go for it. Life is so short, and many do not
realize how much they have around them.

Good for the soul ;)
