Old Horse&wagon WeatherVane ....Is a first !

When your new to this Hobby, you start out by detecting your own house. For me I have been living in my present house for 13 years. I have only detected the front yard and the area up to the Blueberry Bushes which are located a short distance behind my house. The rest has never been done.

As I became more comfortable with detecting other places I just never detected the wooded area way to the back of my property.... So after all this time I decided to make my way back there and see what I could come up with. This property goes back to the mid to late 1800’s and was farm country. The owners of my house use to raise Horses and had a nice size Horse barn out back but it was kinda run down , so I removed it when I moved in this place and replaced it with an updated version of a New Garage…….lolol ;)

Now with all that said, I made my way back to the woods and came up with this nice Weathervane and It was a nice surprise. :) I have not seen to many of these so finding it was a treat. Now that I cleaned it up, its looks to be in good shape..... it may at one time been on top of the old barn that once stood in back of this old property…! Enjoy.... and Keep on digging!

That's really a unique find, Seeker. I would love to find something like that, believe me it would be hanging in my house. I hope you find more goodies in your woods.

many collectors would love this peice....there is a company that buys these old ornate ones and also the lightning rods with blown glass balls on them,,,they pay very good too...i have a pamplet from the co but likely could never find it...sold them several lightning rods....upstate somewhere maybe r.i or n.h.

Not sure of the material its made of.......But it has plenty of weight to it. I did notice that a piece right over the horse broke off, and it was rusted under the paint...I'm sure the paint coating has preserved it pretty well .

I don't think it was in the ground long since it was just under the surface when I found it, being so big it would take many years for it to sink down deep into the ground! Hope this helps.......

I'd have it hanging already also. Well after I walked around with it for a few days showing it off!
