That is an awesome sword. I can't see the marking that you are talking about. Could you point out where they are please?

I shouldn't of stated Markings sorry. Where the come off from the Handle. They look like acorns or some sort of clover leaf and the design on of the handle.

No problem at all.... I don't have a clue about the design but I'd love to find one of those. Very nice!!!

Don't know.. Was given to be by a family member. Trying to find out some info on it. I am concerned it might be a reproduction. I can see filling marks but that doesn't mean anything. I guess I should send some pics to the Smithsonian to see if they can identify if real or fake.

Looks to be from India to me. I see remnants of bluing - could be old, the wire bound handle is practical for grip, looks strong and well made, nice patina. My guess would be Indian military issue late 1800's. I'm not an expert either, but have looked at a few. Try some on line sword sales catalogues - to try and find one similar. Nuggy

That is what I would do.

I hate to say it's an obvious reproduction of one of an 11th century crusader sword. If it were real in the current condition it would be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. All known originals are either in museums or private collections. So unfortuonately its just an old reproduction wall hanger. Great conversation piece though. Here is a link to an authentic crusader sword in much worse condition going for $9,200.00. Hope that helps you out some.

Blade shape is like crusader sword - missing the all important cross shape guard though. Not crusader style without it.
Have seen similar type handle, but with more sabre shaped blade out of India, with Indian type writing on hilt.
