Eagle Belt Buckle - Identified As A C1815-1825 Militia Waist Belt Plate

Hi all. I hit a woods today that I haven't been to for about six months. In the past I found a Shield Nickle, an Indian Head Penny, a Standing Liberty Quarter (no date), a Mercury Dime and some minor 19th century relics (skeleton key, small crotal bell, ect). Today I found this cool looking eagle belt buckle. I was wondering if anybody knows if it's civilian or military?

Thank you Gribnitz and PBK for identifying my find. I really appreciate it!

Definately military and a beauty !! Nice find ! Looks similar to Indian Wars eagle plates but slightly different. Looks older to me. I'd say 1840ish.

Think I found it. Look at number 185 and compare.

    Hi Gribnitz,

Wow, you are fast, thanks. The only difference between my buckle and the one on the web, is that my buckle has 17 stars and the other one has 13.

Great find, Bookfisher! It's a c. 1815-1825 Militia (or "Common Militia") waist belt plate. It's sometimes listed as a "War of 1812 Period" belt plate; however, any usage would have come very late in the war.
