6 inches in water.....
On land we could figure about 50 years. What is the general concensus for water?

While I was still in the water, I laid the ring down to check the signal it was putting out. I went over it a couple of times and then bent down to pick it up, and it was already buried in the sand.
I have no idea how long it has been there, and wonder if it was thrown out there on purpose. The inscription is one of those we will always be together type of things, and I have recently spoken to a lady who told me she threw her first wedding ring into that lake at a different spot.
Believe it or not, I did an internet search for someone losing a ring there, with no luck, or a lot of luck depending how you look at it.

No, it is bad luck if someone else has your ring on.
Finding the ring was cool, but honestly, if I knew who lost the ring, I would return it.
As I stated earlier, I am not sure that it was not cast into the lake on purpose.

I'd say it's 2.5 - 3 carats.

I believe you are right Darkgold.
I hope it is more towards the 3.0, but I am very happy no matter what.
I found this diamond size chart,
and my rough measurements show it to be at least 2.0 +
I should be able to get an appraisal this coming weekend.

Not yet. I am working out of town and have only been home about a week since I found the ring. My wife loves the ring and wears it everyday. So far I have not been able to get her to have it appraised. She is afraid of it being taken from her since I do not have a receipt , or bill of sale. She is afraid it was lost and then turned in as being stolen for insurance purposes. I would like to know myself, so I'll take care of it when I'm home.
Nothing is lost on purpose, therefore, anything can be lost on accident
It is not bad luck to have someone else's ring on your finger.
Bad luck is when your ring is on someone else's finger.
