Wow what a find. 2-3 pounders, 13- 4 pounders and 1- 6 pounder. A real cross section of American feild artillery of the rev war. Its pretty cool they still have the hemp bag they were lost with fused to the balls. All cleaned and preserved.

so were any of them shot? or were they all just dropped in the water? make sure they are solid shot, i have heard some of the explosive shells can still blow up if the powder was sealed dry

see allot of.

Hi Breezie, to answer your question, when iron or any artifact becomes buried in the mud or sand, whether it be fresh water or salt they will be preserved from the lack of oxygen. The deeper they are buried in the mud or sand the better preserved they become.
I have recovered wooden artifacts from a 250 year old, salt water shipwheck, that was buried in sand and the wood looked like it was cut yeasterday.
