HH, Quindy.
Thank you for the kind words my friend. Sorry to ring your phone so early in the morning! Next time I find a memorial penny I will call you, because that would be a real rarity!
Thank you for all the great support and friendship. It means a lot to me. Oh, and it's open Pelican season when you and Dman come down for a visit. Perhaps you can kidnap KFB on the way down and bring him down here too.
Cheers,
BB

Nice save Will. You deserve that one. Not a lot of that CS stuff around. Hope there's more in that field waiting for you to find them.
First CS in twenty years, and it is a PELICAN. Way to go.

That clay pipe you found appears to be native American, I have one just like it. How old would you say the small plain white buttons are?

RPG,
You have a knack for dropping in and replying to my posts. It is really great to hear from you, and I hope all is going well. Send me a PM sometime and let me know how everything is. Thank God the chiggers aren't an issue down here. I'd rather fight off snakes and gators--you know, things I can actually see!
Best Wishes,
Buckles

The clay pipes are unfortunately not Native American, although some no doubt were traded with Native Americans. I have found clay pipes and trade beads on one of my other sites, so anything is possible. But this style of pipe is certainly Civil War era, too late for Indian activity in this area of the country.
The glass four-holed buttons date anywhere from mid 1800s up to the 20th century. I have a hunch that most of them were lost between 1880 and 1930, judging from the age of the trash pits on the site.
Cheers,
Buck
