Well summer vacation is coming to an end for my kids . My Daughter started back today at high school but my Son does not start back to junior high till next Monday . Since we were both home we got the Whites detectors and hunted a local middle school :headbang: . We didn't hunt long due to the heat but it didn't take long to find something great ! We were in the corner of the soccer field when I got a +76 , +78 on the surface . 99% of the time that would be a copper penny or a clad dime , not this time :icon_thumright: . When I got down to dig and move the grass around I saw a silver edge of a dime . I could not believe it when I saw the words " ONE DIME " on the back ! I took a picture before I even touched it . When I turned it over thinking Barber I was stunned to see beautiful Lady Liberty just sitting and waiting for me :laughing7: . It's my first Seated coin in well over a year . What are these kids thinking dropping all these old coins , I'm glad they are not thinking :laughing7: . It's a 1890 in good condition and my 2nd 1800's coin of 2012 . Man do I love hunting schools  .
HH
Glen

Ah c'mon Glen... You are always scooping up the sweet rings, leave us something for goodness sake! :laughing7: :laughing7:

That is a sweet score. And just goes to show you can be surprised by anything if it's 10" down-Or just under the surface.
Nice going on that sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet coin!!

Thanks Peter ! This was one big surprise . My Son could not believe it when I called him over to see it in the grass . He had just passed by about 5 feet away from it .

I had that happen with a Barber dime right on the surface, on a well walked path in the woods. It's blows your mind, doesnt it? Nice one- Can't wait to find one in that shape!

Can I ask whats the ring on that penny? I have heard that they made holes in the money so they could sew them to their clothes
It's just a 1963 Memorial penny . Looks like it was made into a pendent for a neck less . Maybe the person's birth year :icon_scratch:
Thanks and welcome to the forum !
