1697 Sixpence. Love Token.

Second visit after the harvest. Stubble still very hard work, resulting in low finds rate, Only thing of any note found being the William 111, sixpence bent to make into a Love Token.

I know what you mean about the "stubble" was working some a couple of days ago, could only get the detector to within 6 inches of the ground.

"love token" usually have some kind of scribble on them, just curious why you call this a love token ?

A little bent but a nice silver coin find !

Later than the William 111 period. coins that were used as love tokens were rubbed flat and engraved with various details _ names dates etc , but not in the case of earlier ones such as this one. please read the original link and all will be clear. Hutch.

Its your coin but I would not straighten it. That would take away the story of it being a love token. Either way that is a cool find!

That was a beuty! I wonder if the love between the lovers did hold? When you think like that its a cool find, and yes it's silver so its a good find either way!!

I agree, its not a Love Token if straight. I keep mine in a seperate bag away from my main sixpence collection.

If it is circa 25mm, then it is pretty rare. It would make it a Shilling & at 2010 Book Price:
