Over the years, I've posted some pretty interesting finds made by my 12-year old daughter. She once found a 1934 Merc under a lottery machine and has probably made a half dozen silver eyeball finds of one sort or another. The other day, she asked me about an odd coin that she had put in her state quarter collection. Against my advice, she is trying to gather the whole set, both P and D; I keep telling her the coins are only worth a quarter and she'd be better off putting the money in the bank (where she earns a pittance of interest). Anyway, she was confused about something she'd found on one of her quarters; it seems that one of her New Hampshires had an S on it! Right away, I knew it was a proof, and you can still see evidence that this coin was intended not to be spent. Some kid probably broke into Daddy's coin collection and bought ice cream with it, and who knows how long it's been circulating? Unfortunately, the rotten kid didn't steal Daddy's silver proof; this one's clad. I'm pleased that Miss halfdime realized something was different about this coin. Now if only she would notice all the clothes on the floor of her room!

Had to be the one to say, but your should teach her to hold 'Proof' coins on there edge, your acids are now degrading the coin, sorry...

Considering the wear on the coin from circulation, I'm not terribly worried that we'll degrade the coin any further. I've taught her how to properly handle all coins.
