Started on the Saxon Field but we are gridding a long way from the site now & the finds are getting less. We did this for 1 hour & 15 minutes & then moved to a nearby field.
We explored this new field (although Dad had a quick hunt the other day) with very little results after 1 hour. On the way back to the car to move again Dad hit on a piece of Treasure (as defined by the Act)!
It's a 16th C Silver-Gilt Clothes Fastener (bent & broken by plough) this would have been at least 3 pennies worth of silver (weight wise), then add the time & craftmenship & it all adds up to a hugely expensive set of clothe fasteners. Therefore the lady that lost this was someone of importance.
We have had base metal examples of this type but never silver & gold gilt!

We spent the last 30 minutes trying to get Roman Coins on a 'hunted out' site, we managed 2 scrappies.

Other finds for the day on all 3 fields:

18th C Bullion 2 Pennyweight
Tudor Spur Piece
Tudor buckle & pin
Tudor Gilt box/chest stud
Watch Winder
Caterpillar Badge (age?)

I'm guessing lady of the Manor, minium, maybe Royal connections, or very wealth Merchants wife.

Congratulations

If I get it back after about 18 months (which is very likely), I don't think its worth the money to straighten.

I'm new to this board and getting ready to purchase my first MD, I used to go with my father when I was a kid. I read the posts everyday and I am shocked as to what you find. I have always been a fan of all things British, starting with the Beatles I guess, and I am going to add you Crusader to the list as I am very impressed. Do you MD for a living? All I can say is UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Stunning finds. The age of your finds alone makes the research 3 times what we have. Congrats to your Dad. I also think you guys must hunt for a living.:occasion14:

Welcome to tnet. I have never been compared in the same sentence to the Beatles:laughing7:

I do have a full time job & detecting is my every holiday. I'm not a sit on a beach in the sun kinda person. I clock up about 600 detecting hours a year. Dad also has a job but has more time off than me.
We 'work' at it hard but at the end of the day is just my favourite hobby, fishing has nearly died a death.
