Three hours among the stubble brought me a handful of 4th century Romans , all in pretty poor condition, A bent and folded, possibly a Pair of Roman tweezers. And my favorite a Hammered coin _ but another one that has been bent almost double, But after heating and several quenchings it turned out ok . Thanks for looking . Hutch.

Very good for 3 hours & you did well not to break that hammered like I normally do when they have existing splits.

Hi Hutch, I have a new found respect for those that hunt in stubble! :laughing7: Nice haul on the Romans as well as that very nicely restored hammered! Are you going to try and clean up the Romans? I'm still debating whether I should give mine a soak in some vinegar to see if there's any detail left on them. That livery button came out quite well after a few soaks in vinegar and prior to that I thought it was toasted.

Best, Erik

Yes, l will have a go at the Romans, but for now l will leave them soaking in olive oil. Probably not touch them for at least a month, if they come to anything l will add their pictures. Hutch.

Thanks, l usually heat them in a flame for about 30 secs them immerse in cold water, l do that twice and then bend using fingers , then repeat a couple of times untill nearly flat then heat once more immerse to cool and then put it between two pieces of hard wood and give it a sharp bang (and pray) not broke one yet!! finally black it up using candle flame and finish off with a dirty old oily rag.looks good as new. Hutch.
