Back in the fields for a couple hours. Still waiting for the better sites i went to a field near an ancient abbey which gave some good finds before. Again i wasn't disappointed. Got my first chewed musket ball, some coins, buttons, a nice crucifix and a very well made figurine. I add some pics from a field altar made out a roman votive stone, possibly former decorated with matrons. These Matron Stones were very common in our area during roman times as they are based on celtic goddesses.

Great finds again Lu. Could you show picture of back of figure? Is it cast? Any idea of what it's made of? Amazes me you find old coins almost every trip.

At this moment i'm unsure bout that figurine too. It's the small wire you can see in her hands what gives me questions. May Cru Dad can help with identifiying?

That figurine seems almost alive, really nice. I'm glad you included the photo showing it before it was cleaned up. Wow! Andi

Some more pictures from the figurine. Looks like she holds snakes in her hands. I know goddesses with snakes only from minoic and hellenistic sculptures. Still no idea about the age, but the more i look at it the more i like this little girl.

:laughing9: Dad can't ID many artefacts other than Roman Coins which he has specialised in.

Now you have done more photos I'm pretty sure it is not Roman, 18th C at a push, sorry just my opinion.

No worry, that was what i thought too. I started beeing sceptical after you started talking roman! :laughing9: Better to fall in love with a lady only 300 years old! :occasion14:
