Thought I'd share my first finds, lol!

metal det. 01 003 (640x480).jpg metal det. 01 005 (640x480).jpg metal det. 01 006 (640x480).jpg metal det. 01 007 (640x480) (2).jpg
I didn't find anything of value, just going around my property for about an hour.
Still have a lot to learn about my AT pro.
The large metal something or other, was first. Thought it was a rock at first, it was 10 inches down at least.
Could be a metal cap of some sort, not sure it will clean up any more. Probably for farm equipment/lawn mower.
A nail? & a 12 gauge shotgun shell metal part. + to pieces of foil. LOL!
I have several acres to detect, it should keep me busy for a while.

Everyone has to start somewhere. :icon_thumright: Your finds will improve. Learn your machine and then find some old land to hunt.

I found one of those small circular things with the imprint on it too! Do you know what it is?

And congratulations! I wonder if the larger thing is a little pot of some kind?

Hey your doing great. I remember my first hunt, as probably everyone on this forum, nothing too good. My first fine was a Monster Pull Tab and a piece to a lawn mower blade.

I'm curious as to what that little metal bowl was used for. Might have been a cap or deformed by that shot gun shell you found. I can't tell is that a square nail? If so hold onto it and put together a display of the square nails you find in the future.

Don't worry some days are junk (Saturday I found a nice collection of pull tabs and can slaw) and other days the treasures keep coming (Sunday 42 clad coins...most in a coin spill.) The adventure is in the anticipation of what that next target is going to be.

Yeah the nail looks square. Save those, there still over 100 years old and are relics of earlier construction.

I honestly have no idea how to clean the rusty metal parts.
(Sorry the pic.'s aren't great it was already dark when I took them inside.)
'The nail' could be square or it could be a drill bit?
I've been thinking about the 'metal cup', it might be a sort of hub cap? the small kind. It is very dense & has some weight, clearly shaped. But not cast iron.
But both the nail & metal cup are so rusted, can't tell much.
If I have this much fun with rusty junk, can't wait for the really interesting stuff.

Googled cleaning rust, there are a lot of rust cleaning products out there.
But I'm going to try the easy way, with vinegar &/or backing soda.
If that doesn't work, maybe I'll get some CLR, better to practice on this stuff,
so I'll know how to clean more important finds.
Starting with the 'nail', I'll post the results...
I'm really curious to see if there are markings on the 'metal cup'?

Unfortunately the vinegar didn't help much, very little change in rust build-up.
While I have found some more metal trash, embarrassed to post. LOL! Waiting for my first clad...
One of my son's has kidnapped my detector, at least he gives it back!
He has found metal trash & a few modern pennies, I know what Santa will bring him for Christmas!
Waiting for something interesting to post again...
