Tonight after work I decided to hit the spot where on Oct. 2, I found a Conn. copper a George II and a few dandy buttons. I had another decent night with three buttons a small round ball a well worn Spanish Silver and a curious disk with birds on it. I have no idea what the bird thing is. The Spanish Silver is #2 for me with hopefully many more in the future. The date is really weak but I think I see 1780 or 1790:dontknow: I suppose that the date really dont matter but it is nice to know. Next week I have a vacation from work and will be hitting this field hard.

Nice finds! Bird thing could be an ash tray? Unless its silver then it could be part of some kind of set.

Congrats on the One Real VPR! I'm sure you will be finding many more. Looks like birds of paradise on the silver tray thing.

The coin is carolus III, so the date is 1780. The "bird disk" is NOT silver. I got curious and tested it. Must be aluminum......

Thanks for the replies!! So far I have only hunted about 6000 square feet of a 6 acre field. I am willing to bet that there will be a few more nice finds from this site.

Nice stuff vpr ! Any idea what was the use of the field in the early days ? I have a tough time finding spots down here and just wondered how you came about the field ?

This field is right in the center of a small village. A barn on one edge of the field used to be a church. It was still a methodist church in 1858. I am not sure when it was converted into a barn. I wanted to hunt the field because of all of the possible early activity from church gatherings. This field is beside another field that I have had permission to hunt for a few years now. I park at my dads house, where I grew up, walk through the field that I have had permission in to the upper corner of the new field where the old church is. Finding what I think is a colonial home site was pure dumb luck.
I have not even gotten close to the church/barn yet. Infact I am still about 250 yards from the church/barn.

Thanks! Sounds like a great spot !! I'm new to mding and having a tough time getting spots mainly permission . People tend to be wary of letting me dig in their fields or lawns . So I look for old roads leading to old sites where it's mainly backwoods but getting permission
Is still tough even for these sites .

I dont hunt many occupied home sites. I concetrate on old cellar holes and I really like the area hilltop farms. I think the hilltop areas were settled first. This stratagy seem to work pretty good for me.

Thanks ? I've haven't hunted anybody's lawn yet , but I've tried to get fields in town and I can't get them. I do hunt way out sites . The site I hit today for the first time is very old , it was built in 1774 and abandoned in 1870 or so and I'll spend a lot of time there learning my detector more .
