I had an evening hunt yesterday with a buddy on a freshly harvested potatoe field. Easy to walk and dig, nice weather and wet soil like we all like. The second signal when on our way was this beautiful 2th century roman eagle mount from an travel coach. It seems to be a rare find with not many reported and in this condition. The rest of the evening was slow some bits and pieces my buddy got a part of a fibula, part of a roman chest handle and two roman coins and i managed a terret ring for chariot reins, possibly roman too because of the context, but could be also iron age. We have fairly mild weather so we hunted till we quit in darkness...
Here are the finds. Enjoy!

The Eagle is fantastic. I can not even comprehend something called a fibula from a chariot. Thanks for sharing your hunt.

Thanks all! :notworthy: I am still in shock.
@ BB This one is so great! Only a few museums have one and i know only one more dug by an other Hunter. Patina is fantastic compared to the coins from that field.
@ VPR yes, it's a small seal. Smaller than most i dug. We get them on most hunts, used very often i think.
@ Tnmountains Must been my bad english, my buddy dug a broken fibula, this eagle is for mounting the box on a coach and the loop is a rein mount from a chariot. I hope that clears things up.
@ Age old Did you notice the grain of wheat in the beak?

I would say 'Very Rare' & have voted banner!

I have never seen one before & if it were broken I would have no clue where to start. As BB stated it is Museum Quality & I'm sure many would like it.

I knew it was only a matter of time with WestFront's 'on target' searching - BIG CONGRATS on a find of a lifetime. I have no idea on what site it is, but go & get more clues...

You have found history Sir, a piece of extraordinary quality. In the Americas we get excited if we find 18th century stage coach pieces but Roman Chariot pieces, WOW. :notworthy:
Definitely a Banner vote here. Thanks for sharing with us your finds.

You detectorist across the pond kill me! That is one awesome find! I get more fulfillment out of a find like that than any coin. Thanks for showing the chariot and where that piece was located. Big congrats!

Oh wow, I did not notice that. I wonder what that may have symbolized?

That picture is great, now we can all see exactly where it when on the chariot.

The eagle is a very ancient relic unlike the lion figure relic unearthed this week , still we have something in common .. we both enjoy finding old relics ... Well Done ! Westfront
