*UPDATE, RESTORED BUTTON* LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT!! G.W. INAUGURAL BUTTON!!

This morning I returned to the field that I think I will call the "CHURCH FIELD". The last two visits were great with a 1787 Conn. Copper, KG II Copper, 1780 1 Reale, 2 really nice Dandy buttons and several other keepers. With this luck I thought that I would bring along my camera. I am glad I did! I LOVE getting field shots of good finds I will let the pictures talk and I will post again later. I am still kinda' excited and I have not cleaned up the other finds yet. Bullets, buttons, 1832 Large Cent, clock winding key, etc. I will post more pictures when I get the stuff cleaned up.

    Check back later, VPR

    UPDATE.......

Not too long after finding the button I sent it to Leonard Short for straightening and restoration. The button arrived today and as you will see in the pictures, Leonard has the magic touch! I never dreamed that the button would come out this good. He also added the shank on the back.
I will be using his services again in the future and I will recomend him to anyone that asks! You wont be disapointed with his work!

Thank You IRON PATCH for giving me his name

You screamed George Washington and your button is screaming Leonard Short! But that looks like a risky one.

Now that's how you start a weekend.

I am back with some more pics! The Button is as found, no cleaning needed. The other stuff cleaned up well too. I am still swinging on the high side of the field. There is still 2/3 of the field left. I made one quick pass to the barn/church and back with nothing to show. Today was a day for bullets! It seemed like every other hole was lead! I have this week off from work so I will be able to do many more hours on this site!

This makes G.W. #2 for me. Hopefully there will be more in this field!

Oh man...that is bitter sweet! That button is one of the better condition examples I've seen save the bend...even still...BOOYEAH!

Are you going to have it straightened? Looks like a good candidate for success!

I once straightened a 1702 French silver Sol which was almost bent in half...nerve wracking experience. Just google "relic restoration"...I'm sure you'll find someone...

Big Congrats on finding the GW button and a beautiful Large Cent, the soil is kind there for sure. Without a doubt I would not try on your own to straigthen the button, as IP has strongly suggested, let someone like Leonard Short do it for a modest fee. You will be satisfied with the results I am sure.

"The mantra has always been don't clean a (copper) coin or it will lose value.
For undug coins this is true. For dug coins this is untrue.
The value will increase with judicious cleaning."

Yeah it should be out there. He's pretty amazing at what he does, and should be able to give you an idea of how risky it would be. The worse case scenario is it breaks and he repairs it, but at least you have a flat button to display. To me it would be worth the gamble.
