50 coin day: Still shaking...need ID help!

From the land of the Bluenose....was one of those days where the wind would rip right through you. In other wordss a good day to detect.

Left early after making the boss breakfast in bed and hit a few places in Halifax. The first school yard I hit yielded 50 coins in no time flat so I thought I'd wander down to one of the old spots that I have hammered for years along the far side of the harbour. Here the first target turned out to be a musket ball and the second...............made my heart stop. Not quite sure if it is Spanish or French but mister man was the old ticker a pumping!

Carefully cleaned her off a bit and took a few photos of her on the hood of Goquicksi when still shaking, returned from the path. Here is one side.

    And here is the other.

Any help on identifing this coin would be appreciated.

Any way the take for the day was this coin, small silver ring,an action figure, game zone token musket ball and 67 coins @$2.76

Great find Leslie and a big congrats!!!! Seems to be an odd coin and I have seen one before but, don't know where or what. It is not a long cross coin or a short cross coin popular in the medieval times that I am familiar with. It does resemble a Spanish Cob as mentioned, 1651-1773. Nice coin and HH, Mike

(in my best parrot voice) "Braaaak!!! Pieces of Eight!! Pieces of Eight!!"

I can't seem to find the exact one in my book, but yours does seem to closely resemble a Spanish "Piece of Eight".

It's 8 Reales, dated 1712, and could have been minted in Mexico, Bolivia or Peru. Hope this helps, and Congrats!!!

At First I thaught it was a piece of 8 , I cant find it any where on line. Rick might be rite on the money so to speak, but i checked all the examples of the famous piece of 8 and I am drawing a blank. Chances are its 98% Spanish as it was a form of currancy
that was used down home in the very early years, maybe PBK might know ? But its still
a little Cob'ish to me. HOPE IT IS A PIECE OF 8

From the land of the Bluenose...sems to be in too good a shape for beig in the ground that long. I suspect it may be a reproduction and this opinion is repeated on the Alberta Forum. Who cares..still fun to find!

    wow, there's a stinker.............
    reproduction........that works for me.
Only my opinion now, those few of you who will jump on this...lol
    note...everytime I call someones cob/escudo/ a fake/reproduction/copy/counterfeit...
I will only say so...when one darn sure is.

I bet you it still gave you a rush, and yes still fun....nice going with all the rest.
    sorry about the reproduction

coin turns out to be a reproduction..........darn

From the land of the Bluenose.....well the general concensus is the coin is a reproduction and can you believe it from a child's game. Well it still was a rush when I dug it up. Took a knife and chipped at the edges and it is plated. Had passed a magnet test. Maybe next time I'll get the real thing!
