Any initials on the ring. Even though the owner is probably deceased(born about 1911, give or take a year), if you can identify the school with the initials by checking with the school if they have yearbooks in their archives, you might be able to find out the name of the person and possibly reunite with family. Would really be neat if you could get it back to family. Does the size indicate whether it is a man's or woman's ring? If it is a man and you find out the name, you can check the SSDI(Social Security Death Index) and find out the date and state they were living in when they passed. Unless it is a common name like John Smith or Robert Jones.

I am trying to determine the school it came from but no luck yet. I asked for help in the "What Is It" forum but nothing yet.

I figured out the school from help on the "what is it" forum. It's from the old Forest Avenue High School in Dallas. I found a 1929 year book and based on the initials inside I have a name. I've contacted the alumni association; not sure if I'll hear back. The original owner would be a 100.

You still might get lucky and find a living owner. My Oldest Grandfather died at 93 just 2 years ago and Grandma is still as strong as ever. My Great-Grandmother's on my Father's side both lived until their high 90's.

If you have a name, here is a link to the SSDI (Social Security Death Index). Just put in 1st and last name and do a search. It will tell you how many hits you get on that name. If it is a common name, you can cut down the number of hits by putting in range of years on date of birth. 1905 - 1915 for instance. Social Security Death Index SSDI Records Search - GenealogyBank

Ed-D, way to go on the find and especially on the attempt to return the ring to the family. Bravo to you, too, dfxdude, for your assistance.
