Last weekend, I had the opportunity to hunt a private property with 3 old gold mines on it and a seasonal creek in the middle of the Gold Country. The hunt was short and primarily to get familiar with the property for MD’ing in the future and perhaps some panning or other Gold hunting activities. The property (over 30 acres) sits 500 yards from a gold rush era town. The hunt resulted in the discovery of lots of scrap iron and this horseshoe.

I’ve had no meaningful finds to report in weeks. This dry spell was driving me nuts. I have some good prospects along with my usual hunting grounds. Next door to my office is a vacant lot. The house was torn down within the last two or three years. It was built in the late 191? To 192?. I logged a few hours on the lot before work over the last two weeks and two wheaties were found, a 1957 and a 1929. I did the same this morning. I knew silver had to be here somewhere. And here it is, beating my previous oldest coin by 2 years. A 1917 Merc :headbang:

But that wasn't all i found. I also found a 1918 token. :hello2:

and here are the ones listed on Tokencatalog.com

Needless to say, I’m excited about this site. Thanks for sharing my excitement.

Groovy sequence of events! Congrats on your oldest silver and the token. Just now saw your post with the lucky horseshoe, & here's a coincidence: today my son & I detected a local beach together on CA coast, then went our separate ways home. As he was walking through an abandoned old road cut which we've both detected numerous times before, there on the surface of the path was an old horseshoe! If his luck turns to silver as yours did, I'm sure he'll be posting.
Keep us all tuned in to your next finds! Andi

I'd sure like some cleaning tips on this token. I've tried Baking soda and Peroxide with minimal results. Anyone have suggestions.
