I have been doing some research and found some old books on my town. I found a spot that was supposedly a swimming hole in the 1920's. I hit the Roosevelt at the shoreline and then hit seated up on the dry sand in a wash-out.
The dry sand is typically submerged but the water levels are LOW. I was 99% sure it would be a silver dime due to the VDI (80 for silver vs. 79 for a clad dime). I saw the wreath on the back and got excited thinking Barber. Boy was I wrong...a 1843 seated dime in decent condition. I didn't notice until I rinsed if it that someone had carved an 'H' into the front of it.
I cleaned the Rosie with baking soda but didn't have the guts to try it on the dime.
Anyway...it was a VERY exciting find for me...one that I have been waiting for since before I bought my detector! Needless to say, I'm sooo excited over this. The carving on the front makes it even better, personally.
