Went out early today to try and beat the coming rain that was forecast for the afternoon, but the rain curtailed the hunt down to a couple of hours. Not before l found my 5th Roman silver of the year, but l think the best one! First one l have found of the Civil War of 69AD.
RIC Civil war

Thanks for looking. Hutch. see number 11 on link.

The head on this one is stunning & a rare find, I've never seen this period turn up before. Very cool.

I've had a few more Roman Silver this year but I would swap 10 of my junk ones for that anyday!

My votes going in for banner.

That is so awesome. You guys have so much history that goes so far back. Hundred and fifty years ago in Oregon, we were mostly stone age, and the white folks that came here didn't have any coins to loose.

Thanks mate, l didn't have to dig it either , it was actually on the surface, The field was deep ploughed last year for potatoes and that probably brought it up. Hutch.

In plough fields & after the amount of rain we have had, this is fairly common, although what would have been amazing would be an eyes only before he did his first swing over it. I had about 3 buttons on the surface only yesterday, although I can't remember any Roman Silver, but plenty of Roman bronze coins/hammered silver.

(just an insight to UK field hunting)

Yeap, for a Spanish minted coin to turn up in the early days after the British invasion (& its rare), is pretty crazy if you think about it!

It books at £450 in Fine.

Great save.....3 reasons why it deserves a banner vote....1:-rarity....2:-condition....3:-very early Roman by UK standards.

Banner vote on the way.

Must admit my faithful T2 warned me to look, as it bleeped the right sound. on looking closely l could see the grey disc.(20mm) . And yes l have to agree the recent heavy rains had helped. l have like you on several occasions in the past found other coins on the surface, but usually the detector gives a signal first. Every time l look at the coin l get to like it more and more. !!
