Went out MD'ing last night from 7-10pm. Dug up some clad and in between I found this religious medallion. At first I thought it was a pull tab. Is this one of those church give-aways or something better? Not sure. Further on I received a not so weak dime signal at 8". Dug a nice round plug and out came a cone of soil, and at the bottom of about 7" came this merc. I finally got the hang of this machine. Pressed on but the batteries were almost on E, so I called it a night. Persistance into learning this hobby have so far paid off. I was up till 1am the previous night with a collection of junk items, air testing the crap out of them in an attempt to learn the 250 language.

Way to go on the Merc; I try to take an extra set of batteries with me.

Mercs have a neat ring on the Ace 250 (somewhere between a ping and a pong, hard to discribe). I've found 3 with mine and am really happy with it. WTG!

I found a medalion like that in September. I am told they go back to the 1930's and if you look closely on the back, it is absolutely STERLING silver.

Nice find!!

Wow.......that looks almost identical to the one I found! Thanks for sharing this photo.........I wonder what is the real history to these things? I found this in the Bronx about 6 inches down. The one I found says "ITALY" on the back. Update:.....I went looking online and they have similar designs.........so I guess it may be hard to tell the period. If you find out anything else, let us know.

Nice finds, Ricardo. That's a Catholic medal you found. It's called a Miraculous Mary Medal and the date at the bottom (1830) commemorates a miracle attributed to Mary. I believe it was the Miracle of Fatima. Good one.

I always thought NYC parks would be a great place to detect. They go way back and most likely do not get hit like the "burbs" do.

Try the Cloisters and the West side! I bet there are ton's of old finds. Central Park was engineeered inthe 1840's, so that may be a good choice as well.

Good luck!

Nice finds Ricardo. It seems you're getting used to the ACE 250 now. Good deal. I still want one.
Take care, Mike
