todays dig brass light fixture ??

Dug this up at new smyrna beach. It is brass and weighs 6 lbs. Looks like a emergancy light cover. From a ship maybe. The hole on the top is threaded. Also dug up 14 sinkers and $1.23 in clad. Digging was tough it was all in heavely packed shell. Have to pack small spade for next time.

Off a ship. The light bulb was enclosed in a glass that's missing from your find. The glass is to protect the bulb from water, the bracket from being hit with something and breaking it. Much like this photo.
