My son and I bought my wife the "Mega Jug" from Gem Mountain in Montana as a cool Christmas present. She thought it was a pretty cool idea so today the three of us sat at the kitchen sink for the better part of 4 hours and went through the whole thing! Grand total was 21 grams or 105 carats of sapphires! Some were pretty good size and had some nice color to them. One of my favorites is one of the larger ones that is a nice light blue with a yellow center. I also believe we found a small ruby as well. Here are the pictures:

Need to look at getting some of them "heat treated" to enhance and darken their color. After that I guess we will see if any are of good enough quality to have them cut and made into something!

I must add a plug for the people at Gem Mountain (See photo of lid with address and phone number) (Gem Mountain Philipsburg MT Sapphires)
They were GREAT! FAST shipping and when the first jug I ordered came in having been damaged in the mail (dirt and styrofoam peanuts all over the box, the jar lid had broken and come off) they IMMEDIATELY sent out a new jug with some extra dirt to make up for some of the stuff that had spilled everywhere! And it STILL made it here before Christmas! Now THAT is good customer service! We will certainly be buying more from them in the future and would like to visit there someday as well!

Cool! You guys did very well. The local rock club here is having a sapphire hunt later this month, I am in for 2 bags to search. I can't detect for 5-6 months of the year due to winter, so maybe doing this sort of gem hunt will cure the detecting withdrawals a tiny bit. Have you ever ordered dirt to pan for gold? That would be fun too.

Let us know if you wind up with any cut and polished sapphires!

Will do J.Cache! I'll post any follow up pics here on this thread when we figure out what to do with them...
