That's quite a pile Beau. I see some unique items in there that Dan and I have yet to dig at that site. Again, it was a pleasure to spend time hunting with you and hope we can do it again.

Hey Beau - in your pic - you know what item I circled is?
seal & baluster spoon handle circa 1600,s - Im sure you know - though others may not
but I have found these in farm fields in New England - but did you know what they used these for when they broke ?
they used them as pipe tampers - so those out there that think they might have a piece of broken junk
you may want to take it out of your junk box and add to your colonial display

Thanks Casper! We had a lively little discussion about that over on the "What Is It?" forum. It is a cool little find and will get a prominent spot in my display. Hope all is well!

I noticed those in your pic too Beau, and remembered having dug at least a couple over the years. But I had no clue as to what they were. I checked out the discussion on the What Is It forum and got educated. I agree that it's odd that I've never recovered the corresponding spoon bowl piece (and it doesn't sound like others have either), but I'm going to side with the majority consensus as to the ID of this item. Now I have to go scrounge through many boxes of old finds to see if I can locate a couple of these. I'm surprised Dan and I haven't come across any of these in a half a dozen hunts at this site. Interesting topic!
