On the heels of a CW camp. Found 30 bullets, sling hook, tons of camp lead.

Today I decided to try a patch of woods I've been meaning to detect for a while. It started out slow, real slow. On top of it I left my second lesche shovel at a hole. Eventually retraced my steps and found it. I noticed an out of place holly tree in the woods and decided to detect around it. I first found a round ball, then an older style tombac button and another round ball. Didn't pan out to find what I was hoping to find. No other signals there so I headed toward this large tree. Found my first bullet, a sharps. I will give you the short story, 30 bullets later and with a ton of camp lead and a nice sling hook I can sense I am on the heels of a camp nearby. End of the hunt I found this large dandy button with a nice design on it. I am very very excited to search these woods harder and maybe, just maybe have stumbled upon the beginnings of a camp site. Wish me luck guys. Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Way to go bud! That is an impressive haul, I would say you are on the camp if not on the heels! I see some early buttons mixed in as well!

Is it weird or unusual to be "in a camp" and not find anything other than bullets? I wasn't frustrated by any means, but thought for sure I was gonna find something, a button, more brass other than the sling hook and that tiny buckle. Not even iron! Other than a horse shoe which was beside 3 bullets.

There was only one bullet different than a sharps, other than the 2 colt pistol bullets and the round balls. I will get a picture of it up shortly.

Great day you had Matt. Maybe you're onto a colonial site where a CW camp existed a hundred years later. That will be an exciting place to hunt. Good luck to you.

Heels nothing, I think you're IN a cavalry camp. Awesome haul of sharps and sword keeper.

I hope so. I need to get back in there ASAP. What a rush it is to be on a possible virgin camp.

You are killing it Matt!! That trumps my little picket bullet, .58 3 ringer, and eagle button from a scouting trip today. Sharps are fun to dig. WTG, Q.

Thanks, Quindy. I worked my butt off for it and I'm glad my intuition paid off to go this direction. We had heavy rainfall last night and there were actually streams through the woods and I got into some patch of bullets and every time I would dig it would fill back in with water. Well I got this one signal right next to a big tree and of course the target is under a large root. So I'm trying my best to get under this root, on top of shoveling out water and reaching in the cold water to FINALLY pull out another sharps. The signal was reading as a quarter, so it coulda been anything. If I knew it was a bullet I may have let that one go til the ground dried up. lol HH.
