I decided to go to the hammered old high school area where old houses use to stand. Didn't find much at first but a lot of uncovered holes, that I covered, from some other mdist. Then I got a very good deep signal on my mine lab SE pro. The hole was at least a foot deep when I discovered the reading moved to the dirt beside the hole. It turned out to be a large dirt covered disc that I thought was probably another piece of junk like I found many a time in this area. But I felt the weight an saw the reeded edge (1880 S Morgan) and said " yes I probably just found the best find of the year for this year"! Then I found the piece of ster. ring with a turquoise stone and then a while later found a Gerber flik lying in the grass. The final find was the modern dollar coin. Thanks for looking!!! Best day detecting in a while!

Rare find! I've seen two dug, but only dug one in 20 years. Many never find one. Silver Dollars were so much money when lost, an so big and easy to see when lost, that they seldom stayed lost for long. GREAT find!

Don't those things feel a lot heavier when you dig them up, then just holding a store bought one?
I'll go to my grave remembering the first one I ever dug, years ago, but I can't tell you what I had for dinner two days ago.
Kudos!

Great finds and good job on filling the holes. But, don't forget, not all uncovered holes were because of a md-ist. Animals DO come around and dig up loose plugs. Cut 'em deep and put 'em back tight! :)

HH!

Great finds - always nice to find a morgan dollar - very nice to cover up this holes - I noticed one time I had covered all my dug holes real good only to come back the next day and most of them were uncovered - I think an armidillo or some varmit had uncovered them looking for grubs maybe. I'm glad I came back and recovered them.

Your find is a mid-20th-Century-to-present US Army Medical Corps collar-insignia. Having a letter on it means it is the Officer version. The letter A on yours designates the Administrative branch of the Medical Corps. (A letter D denotes Dental, a V is Veterinary, etc.)
