Found my 14th gold coin last Thursday night. 1849 D $5. A friend and I had been researching from old traveller and stage routes in our state. In addition to this beauty, I also got an 1825 Bust half. My friend got a 177x Spanish one reale, and a 1911 s barber dime from this site. Relics from this site are also shown here. Lots of fun!

Very nice finds. I can't wait to find my first gold. It might be soon or maybe take some time but some day I really hope to.

Not counting the fabled story of the fellows at the fort site in Utah (who found 20 to 30 gold coins each), Does anyone know of anyone who's found more than 14 singular gold coins? Ie.: singular numismatic losses, not a cache, not set in jewelry, etc.... ?

I am impressed. But not so much about your need to toot your own horn. Really Tom? :notworthy:

l have found 9 individuals. but it has taken 35 years. so : just short of 4 years average per find. so as you can see they don't come easy !! Hutch.

Tom - aren't you the guy who used to pull gold coins from the CA beaches after big El Nino storms? Looks like you're continuing to be a gold coin magnet. In addition to the coins that's a bunch of nice relics you dug. And great job on the research. That's what it takes to put you on the best spots nowadays. Nice going!

Bill D, yup that's me. 4 of my gold coins came after beach storm erosion. MN-coin-hunter, just wondering if there's some count out there somewhere. Why does anyone relish their finds, bring them to show their friends, etc...? Why does a golfer relish a hole-in-one? I know I'm well behind the "Camp Floyd" guys, but wondering if anyone knows of any other hunter's tallies for this stat.

GREAT Job, Tom........that is a beautiful $5 Gold.......with your 35+ years of detecting and finding 14 gold coins is awesome!!......I am going on my 42 year of detecting and never found a Gold coin......So, is your success the fruit of good research?.....or has most of your finds been non-researched random drops?
I see your previous 2 Banner gold finds......so what was the denominations of the other 11 gold coins you found....and have you found more than 1 gold coin in a single days hunt, and have you found more than 1 gold coin on subsequent trips to a gold coin producing spot or area??.....just wondering...Thanks

I wish you many, many more gold coins in the future

Bill
