Sunday bkinpa, DKinPA & I headed to Coin beach for a little bit.
was a long trip from here. about 200 mile one way.
the beach was nice to look at, weather was ok but waves kept me
busy trying not to get wet feet. I failed, the waves won :laughing7:

besides the 3 of us I met 2 brand spanking newbies, she said he bought a Garrett 250
for her the day before, but won't take it out of his hands.
she did have a Cool Lock plate from a jewelry Box or something they found.
I told them to check us out .
saw another hunter with a
Excalibur fighting the waves, and on our way out a Young lady was on her way in.
I assured her I left plenty there as We exchanged a quick Pleasantry.
But no body seemed to be from here. :dontknow:

my Finds for the day
included 21 Cents

Jeff, it was great meeting you Sunday. I am one half of the newbie couple that you mentioned meeting Sunday, my name is Al and my wife is Kelli. We live in Lewes and I spend a lot of time at the beach, usually with a surfboard beneath me and my wife a surf widow on the sand. She has a friend who treasure hunts the beaches and told her of all the treasure that is out there, so I bought her the Garrett to give her something to do while I surf. But as you mentioned, I never let her even try to use it Sunday because I was hooked on it pretty quickly. I may have to go buy another one for myself if the addiction gets worse. We did find a few newer coins on the beach and what appears to be an escutcheon from a box of some type. I took your advice and made up an electrolysis gizmo to clean off some of the crust from the piece. It worked fairly well and at least I can read a few of the letters stamped into it. It appears to read RAMONI. It was cool to at least find something on our first time out. It may not be ancient, but its something to have as a momento. We went to Roosevelt Inlet after we left you and scouted out the beach there, but ended up with finding a nail and half of a snap swivel. The Garrett picked up the signal from the swivel pretty good and I was walking fairly fast trying to get back to the Jeep before my hands froze. It was cooler in Lewes than it was at Indian River. It was nice meeting you and very helpful. Hope our paths cross again. Here is a pic of the escutcheon P1030486.JPG P1030483.JPG
Take care,
Al

Sounds like your Hooked...Make sure you get a water detector, lots of gold in OC during the summer, and your use to the ruff surf so you should do well. And nice little treasure you dug.. :)

I think your right about being hooked, though the cool and windy weather this week put a damper on my hunting. I started surfing years ago, at the ripe old age of 38 and told my wife that it was a very inexpensive sport. Well, that was 15 surfboards ago and innumerable wetsuits, cheap it ain't. So metal detecting seems to be one of those types of hobbies. Always something better to buy. I can see the need for a pinpointer type detector. So is that the next step and then another detector so my wife and I can cover more ground? Time will tell.

jeff, just browsed the thread, ive found strips like this on wrecks before, its a piece of lead patch that would've been nailed over a leaking seam, if there wasnt so much snow, id show you a piece I worked off a wreck me and my buddys excavated and identified back around 2005ish. its all deformed from rolling and getting beat around
