As some of you know, I don't have a metal detector. I'm just starting out with any kind of detecting, but I love history and have an intense passion for unusual things I find with an old nature.
So today, while waving a strong magnet around under my carport, I found this horseshoe and near it, several very rusty nails.
Maybe not the most valuable, but possibly helpful in aiding my attempts in dating the home place here.

Hey, you know what, you have the deep passion and respect for history, and that is going to shine through in your finds once you get a metal detector. Research is key, and maybe you can use your own house as a starting point. It has some age to it. Check out census and vital records, ask family or neighbours. You never know what historical info you'll find! Best of luck to you. I see great things!

Thank you so much, ACE! I am a huge nerd about American history and tying our present to our past. I really respect this site because so many out there focus on only the value of what the find, not necessarily what the item was or how it relates to now.
I am working on my husband to get me a detector for Mother's Day (fingers crossed!!) and if that happens, you will be seeing a lot more posts from me, ha!
Regarding the horseshoe, I found two other metal pieces near it, much smaller, and several nails. I've been scratching around my yard for about a year now and have found a ton of stuff, but never something that looks this old. It makes me giddy!!
