Roman Villa Site producing Bronze, Silver and 1700 year old Roman Gold Ring

Today i went back to the Villa Site where i found the Wolfhead Pendant. It was plowed yesterday and i had time till 5.00pm today. I was detecting the field while the farmer was planting potatoes... :tongue3:
It was well worth the effort. Still have to dig nails, the site is far from being clean. So lots of nails, lead, some scrappies, one Denarius, a beautiful condition Dupondius(?) (not identified yet), found on the last row for the day and as nearly the last signal 20 metres from the truck the golden Ring. :hello2: Other finds were a french Regimental button, roman sandal nail, roman bronze nails, one decorated, a first for me.:icon_thumright:
I talked a bit to the farmer, thanked him for his cooperation, showed the finds from the day and was invited to come back after harvest.
Here are the pics:

I missed the coins in my excitement, and now I'm drooling remembering the good old days, on my villa field....you should get four or five years out of this field.:icon_thumright: If you meen the coin on the left (3rd & 2nd last pictures) is denarius....it looks like a Siliqua, Valens I think of the top of my head....

Very nice ring!!!

Cru'dad:
'Westfront has just posted a CONSTANTIUS II CENTENIONALIS of circa AD348-361 as Sears(88) 4002. Obv: DN CONSTANT-IVS PF AVG Diadem, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev: FEL TEMP REPARATIO Constantius standing left on Galley holding a Phoenix (or a Victory possibly?) and Labarum with boat being steered by Victory.

Westfront....you need to post more pictures of the Gold ring (different angles) and some history about it, date style e.c.t, I can help with this, if you wish. Then I think the banner train will stop by :icon_thumright:

I'll take some pics with the good camera later, these are just made with the cell phone.... Unfortunately i only know that the style is late roman (for our area) and not much more. Any help is welcome!

The coins do indicate a late 4th century villa, but the ring could date anytime during the roman empire, the design is either classical, or even the wife of an emperer.

Wow, some very nice finds thats for sure. The ring is somthing else but what really blows me away is that SS found a ring that is very similar, I wounder if they may have been made be the same guy. Do you have any idea of the age of this ring?
I'm pulling the trigger on the Banner button for sure.
I would love to see an update with the ring fixed up.

Thanks Dave! Like SS stated, the design of these rings was used over a long time in the roman empire. Many finds from this site date into 4th century as does the pendant i found in december. The ring will be roughly the same age or older. Hard to believe to hold a 1700 year old ring in your hand!

That ring is a super sweet find. You just have to wonder who that ring used to belong to and how it was lost... It's amazing to know your the first person to touch it since way back then.... That's a stellar find to me...
