I've been hunting these woods a long time...first one of thse I found! The woods USED to be Walterboro Army Airfield, built in 1942, bulldozed flat in 1946...makes it nice for dating objects.

Anyone know why these are painted red? (Or appear to be anyway) Tuskeegee airmen were stationed here, something to do with the red tails? Either way...this one hole made my day for sure...then I broke my headphones.

ahahahahahaah it happens...always more to hunt

I guess not pilot...but US Army Aviation enlisted collar device...

Still an outstanding day, love finding anything AAF :-)

It's great that you can match the piece to its source and time period. A lot of history there. :icon_thumright: I've never seen one painted red... Cool stuff!
