Figured this was worth posting here. Coin is in good shape too. Aside from a nick by the date. I believe it is my best find to date.

***Edit. Been brought to my attention by a few posters that there was no story here. So, here goes...

The beach I was hunting has a few main cuts open on it. Rest of it is pretty much sanded in. This day, 9 or more detectorists were hitting the cut hard. A lot of them were crawling on top of each other. Most seemed friendly. But, I figured the area had been worked out. Lots of different machines out there so it had probably been cleared out.

With the tide as low as it was going to get I headed there. I always like to hit low tide line no matter what. Thats what paid off. I hit a quarter right away. Pat on back. 15 feet from it, swinging WOT, I hit a solid signal on outer edge of swing. So I go over it again, an yep, its a solid signal. I have headphones Obn modded with skullies in them, so there was no mistaking it. Scoop. A quick check of hole and I had it.

I dumped scoop out, never do this again with wave coming. For some reason my check did not get a signal...so I almost walk away. I would probably have searched more again, but still I almost walked. Wave receeded revealing coin in setting. I looked over my shoulder, 7 or 8 guys still on that cut. 1 was watching, but could not see.

1892 Austria 4 Florin/10 Francs Gold Coin (.0933 oz of Gold)
This 1892 4 Florin/10 Francs coin from Austria is a beautiful dual denomination gold coin containing .0933 ounces of fine gold. The coin is an official restrike from the Austrian Mint, issued partly as a commemorative and partly as gold bullion.
The dual denomination 4 florin 10 francs is one of the many varied denominations of gold coin that Austria has produced in its long history. Between 1870 and 1892, Austria produced two different coin types, each of which carried face values in two different monetary systems. This is because these coins were "trade coinage" intended for international use as bullion coins. These types were the 4 florin/10 francs, shown here, its sibling, the 8 florin/20 francs.
Front/Obverse
The laureate head, facing right, of Emperor Franz Joseph IRear/Reverse
The arms of Austria superimposed upon a crowned double-headed imperial eagle with the year and denomination.

Definitely worth posting, congrats! Finding a gold coin is something we all dream of but very few actually do. Can you tell us about how you found it, is there a cool story behind your find?

Not much of a story to it. Although, I did almost lose it. I hit it on the low tide line. And got it in one good scoop. Dumped bucket as I checked hole. And checked pile, no sound. Must have missed it, was a real quick check. The end of a wave had come at the same time. I thought it whisked a pull tab away, but when it receded the coin/pendant was visible. I am sure I would have checked more thouroughly, but still, was kinda close. Found with sov GT, headphones OBN modded with skullies and wot [thx Joe :icon_thumright:].

@ AU Seeker, thanks for links an helping me id that coin. Was wondering about it, looking through ebay links. :]]]

Is it banner worthy? The most recent banner smokes it, but still ... maybe?
